Resumo | The La Plata Basin is constituted for sub-basins of the rivers Paraná, Paraguay and Uruguay, ant it draine areas of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay, where it was built the bi-national Itaipu hydroelectric, the largest hydroelectric in operation of the world. In sight of this, efforts have been made to understand the climate patterns influences on the streamflow of this Basin. There are many factors that cause the streamflow change, and evapotranspiration and precipitation are one of many of these mechanisms. However, the relationship between the climatological precipitation and evapotranspiration patterns over a watershed and its hydrological response, through the streamflow, may have different degrees of complexity according to their physical features. In general, the behavior of the streamflow is more easily identified than directly observe changes in climate variables. The goal of this study was to evaluate, using Empirical Orthogonal Functions and Singular Value decomposition, the influence of the distribution of precipitation and evaporation over the streamflow of the major rivers of the La Plata Basin. It was used Modern Era Retrospective-analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA), South American Land Data Assimilation System (SALDAS) and Global Meteorological Forcing Dataset for Land Surface Modeling (GMFD) of Princeton University Hydrology Research Group. The MERRA and GMFD data sets were used for the period January-1979 to December-2006 and SALDAS data set was used to January-2000 to December-2004. The streamflow data was obtained from the Brazilian National Water Agency (Agência Nacional da Águas, ANA). The anomalies of precipitation and evaporation that occurred during the austral summer had more emphasis, in spite of the hydrometeorological regime of the Basin Region not presents a clear seasonal pattern, it is in this period it has been defined much of the water availability. The patterns of anomalies of streamflow, and also the description of the changes in precipitation patterns and evapotranspiration during the period analyzed was verified. The spatial patterns vary slowly with respect to time, reflecting the spatial and temporal scales of the control by climatic variables. |
